Description
In this virtual laboratory, we investigate how humans search their environment for objects they need during everyday activities. We study where and with what strategy participants search the environment (in this case, a kitchen) and how they trade-off the search time for an object with the utility of potential replacement options (e.g., how long do they search for a wine glass when they already have access to a cup?). The study was originally conducted in Virtual Reality and for scaling and comparison purposes replicated in an online-capable desktop experiment, which can be accessed through the linked virtual lab. This gives participants from all over the world the opportunity to enter the lab environment.
